Jo and John Thomas Installation and Dungeness at The Watershed, Bristol, January 1994.
This sound /text / image installation consisted of frames that when opened by the viewer tripped a piezo buzzer which set off tape recordings of electrical, static, bird and wind sounds. The text printed on the mesh of the frames referred to the scientist Rutherford and his nuclear experiments whilst inside the frames were photographs of Jo and John Thomas, an old couple whose small bungalow sat alone beside the looming nuclear power station. The Photographs depicted them going about their daily chores with the ever present power station in every frame. In a slideshow, a photo of the power station at night taken from their advertising literature identifies a light as coming from the Thomas's house and is zoomed into until the light becomes part of an image of an atom splitting.
